J.J.Cale
Very sad loss of a wonderful singer songwriter. J.J. Cale passed away on Friday at the age of 74. J.J's music has been a large part of my life. I lost connection with his music for several years, but only just recently rediscovered him through his 1990 album Travel Log. Pure, passionate, and always from the heart, J.J. Cale's music carries a strong, loyal and loving fan base. Thank you for the music Mr. Cale.

Jethro Tull - Live Munster Germany 1973
Jethro Tull
Halle Münsterland, Münster, Germany
1973-03-08
This is a very impressive, energetic full-length Thick-as-a-Brick
performance of Tull and the whole rest of the show, part of the second
german leg of the TAAB tour after Jethro Tull had already toured with A
Passion Play in the States before . There are a few other complete and
very good to excellent recordings of full TAAB this being one of them.
Type: audience mono
SQ: Very good, a bit far from the stage, full dynamics in the music, a
little bit hiss in the quiet parts
Venue: Halle Münsterland, Münster, Germany
Date: 1973-03-08

I was lucky to see and record this great show, when I was 17 year old, and
it was one of my first recordings of not so many live shows. I can't
contribute any details of the show - all forgotten. But these tapes have
always been a treasure for me, never played for most of the years and first
digitized in 2003 - but without azimuth! So I'm happy having discovered a
way to share it and finished it finally.

Welcome To The Machine (Cannonball CA-2004017/18)
Alameda Coliseum, Oakland, CA - May 9th, 1977
Disc 1: Sheep, Pigs On The Wing (part 1), Dogs, Pigs On The Wing (part 2),
Pigs (three different ones), Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-5)
Disc 2: Welcome To The Machine, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Shine On
You Crazy Diamond (parts 6-9), Money, Us & Them, Careful With That Axe Eugene
This concert has the distinction of being one of the best recorded from
Pink Floyd's In The Flesh 1977 US tour. The clarity and balance makes it
possible to hear every note played perfectly and even the giggles between
Roger Waters and David Gilmour in "Have A Cigar". This show was released
several years ago as Mr. Pig which utilizes (so it was claimed) the first
generation reel-to-reel masters. Highland uses compression and heavy
equalization to bring out the high end on the tape making everything louder.
Cannonball used a different tactic with this release. They didn't use the
compression or any form of dressing up of the tape to make it sound much
more natural and dynamic. The highs aren't as shrill as on the other one
making it sound very nice. Furthermore the crowd reactions such as they
are not as audible either. It could be that Cannonball has used the DAT
clone of the master whereas Highland used the reel-to-reel copy of the
master.
Whatever the case might be this tape is the best sounding from this
particular Pink Floyd tour and is essential. The Oakland crowd were well
behaved enough to not throw firecrackers and upset Roger (how many times
did he yell at audiences during this tour?) Both Animals and Wish You Were
Here are played perfectly. David Gilmour in particular is on fire here.
Of particular note is his solo in "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" where he
throws in some middle-eastern scales adding an exotic oriental feel to the
piece. A unique event in a Pink Floyd concert!
To thank the well-behaved crowd the band reward the audience with the extra
encore "Careful With That Axe Eugene", the only time the song was played
during the tour and the final time ever by the full band. It's a short
version and the scream isn't as blood curdling as in the past. It is
however very nice to hear the mature band pulls out this early classic.

This is the part of the stream of essential Traffic performances 1967-1974.
This recording was made while the band was taping shows for their
soon-to-be-released On The Road double CD. For the tours and records made
around this time ('72-'74), Traffic was augmented by three members of the
legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, a group that had provided backing
on some of the greatest rock and R&B hits of the 1960s and '70s, including
many classic Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield records. This same month,
Traffic released Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory, which went gold and
reached the American Top 10.
By adding David Hood on bass, Roger Hawkins on drums and Barry Beckett on
keyboards, the group's core members -Winwood, percussionist/vocalist Jim
Capaldi and sax player/flutist Chris Wood - found an enormous amount of
freedom to play their respective instruments. Many Traffic classics are
here, including "Empty Pages," "Evening Blue," "Forty Thousand Headman,"
"Glad" and "Freedom Rider," but there is still enough room for several,
then-new tracks to be featured, including "Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory,
"Rock and Roll Stew," "Roll Right Stones," "(Sometimes I Feel So) Uninspired"
and "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone."For fans of Traffic, Winwood, or classic
rock in general, it doesn't get much better than this.

Pink Floyd - Live and Rare Tracks 1969-1973
Here is a great fan collection of some of Floyds more unique output through the early classic years.
Various bitrates and sound quality, but as the notes below suggest, all within the VG to Ex range.
If you are a hard core fan, or just curious about Floyds early live sound, this collection is a must.
*Original Notes*
What kind of Pink Floyd fan are you ?- Your most beloved period of the band
are the early days because they were often experimenting new ideas and new
songs during concerts.- You like only live bootlegs with the best sound
quality. So you already may have all the recording from the band rated 9
or 10/10 : all the BBC sessions / The Montreux festivals 1970 & 1971 /
The Man & the Journey from the Concertgebouw 1969 / The Electric Factory
1970 / the Rainbow 20 Feb 1972 (best on tour) and maybe others-
You don't want to own bootlegs for archival purposes, but for listening
pleasure. So you're happy to stick with the list of bootlegs mentioned
above, since you don't want to have 10 times the same setlist with few
variations from concert to concert.- But you know that in some particular
occasion, the Floyd played some special versions of their songs, or played
songs sporadically before dropping them out of their set-list...These
special or rare versions can be found on many bootlegs, but would you like
to have them all ? For most of them the sound isn't top quality. you'd like
to listen to these songs only but not to the whole concert and to a 10th
version of "Saucerful of secrets" for example., even more if the sound is bad.
If you're this kind of Pink Floyd fan, THIS COMPILATION BOOTLEG IS FOR YOU !
It contains many rare tracks or special versions of most common tracks.
Sound quality is not always the best, but I have selected the best I could
find. I am very demanding on the sound quality, so I rate very severely
unlike most bootlegers/fans who have a tendency to rate "excellent" or
"very good" recordings that, to me, are barely listenable...I am particularly
proud of the Moonhead version from the BBC TV since it sounds much much
better than any other versions I could find, even on the ultimate
"A Tree Full of Secrets" bootleg anthology.3 CD boxset, with complete
artwork, and an 8-page booklet with full details for each track, which are
summarized below :
CD1
1. Hollywood
2. Cymbaline - Music from the film More, recorded March 1969.Unreleased and
different versions than the soundtrack album. Quality 8/10
3. Moonhead - London, BBC studio 1969. Unreleased track used in a TV
documentary on the night of the first moonlanding. This track is
basically a bass riff, which was years later recycled in the middle
instrumental bridge of Money. Quality 7/10
4. The Violence Sequence
5. The Amazing Pudding - Live in Paris, France, theatre de Champs Elysees,
23 Jan 1970. Quality 9/10
6. Main theme from More
7. Sysyphus
8. The violence suite (Heart beat, pig meat / Quicksilver / Moonhead /
Violent Sequence) - Live in Birmingham, 11 Feb 1970. Historical
performance, these songs were almost never performed live. Quality 5/10
CD2
1. Astronomy Domine - Live St Raphael USA, 17 Oct 1970. The shortest
(6 min) version of this song ever performed in 1970. Quality 7/10
2. Introduction : the Massed Gadgets of Auximenes and the Knights of the
Teutonic Order
3. The labyrinths of Auximenes
4. Grooving with a Pict
5. Embryo - Live Hamburg, Germany 14 Nov.1970. Labyrinths
(often mistitled Corrosion on many bootlegs) is a different version of
Moonhead. Grooving is a unique performance, and Embryo features an extra
experimental jam. Quality 7/10
6. Allan's psychedelic breakfast - Live in Sheffield, England, 22 Dec. 1070.
This track was performed live only 5 times in Floyd's history. Quality 7/10
7. Blues in the Wind - Live in London, Hyde Park, 18 July 1970. Rare short blues
played as an introduction to Embryo. Quality 5/10
8. Embryo - Live in New York, USA, 5 Nov. 1971. Very long (17 min) and
unusual bluesy version, as opposed to the "psychedelic" (as I would call
it) standard version. A complete reworking of the song. Quality 6/10
CD3
1. The labyrinths of Auximenes - Live in Gothenburg, Sweden, 11 Nov. 1970.
Labyrinths is aother version of Moonhead. This performance was often
mistitled "Librest Spacement Monitor" (!?). Quality 7/10
2. Embryo - Live in Cincinnati, USA, 20 Nov. 1971. This is the longest version
of this song ever performed (27 min !). Maybe because of technical
problem ? The extended jam features parts reminiscent of Echoes. Quality 7/10
3. Childhood's end - Live in Zurich, Switzerland, 9 Dec. 1972. This song was
only played sporadically in 1972. Quality 7/10
4. Obscured by clouds/
5. When you're in - Live in London, England, 19 May 1973. Rare track played
only at some 1973 shows. Quality 6/10
6. Obscured by clouds
7. When you're in - Live in London, England, 5 Nov. 1973. These versions are very different
to the above performance some months earlier. Obscured is played here
very very slow, and When You're in is very short. Quality 6/100
