Title: Transit Of Venus

The original audience master cassette was recorded on a Sony TC124 with unknown Sony dynamic mics, spread approx. 25-30 ft. across the balcony, by Ken & Judy Lee. The cassette was baked, processed and transfered via Tascam 122 MK-III > Lucid ADA1000 > Tascam CDRW 700 (CDR) by John Jay Hance in 2004. Further editing and tracking performed by Peter G with Soundforge. Audio extraction via Peak 3.2.1 on a G4 Titanium Powerbook, compressed with xACT V1.2 (flac level 6), and seeded by BoldCaptain via BitTorrent 3.2.2a. Extra thanks to Dave T. for the help with the setlist.

Notes: Another outstanding offering from Ken and Judy Lee, this time a triple bill. McKendree Spring, Livingston Taylor, and Jethro Tull. while I was familiar with the last two, McKendree Spring was unknown to me. A web search revealed quite a bit of info. For those as unfamiliar as I was , Fran McKendree fronted this progressive band from the mid to late 60's into the 70''s. He is still very active in the music scene, both as a musician and a producer. The sound of McKendree Spring is quite different, mixing a psychedelic sound with a progressive edge employing violins, horns and moog synthesizers. I wish there was more of this here, but as an opening act his time on stage was limited. I''m sure you will like it, and probably want more as well. As the tape begins abruptly, we think that Ken himself may have been sitting the set out, and upon hearing the unique sound that McKendree has, decided to turn on the deck mid song, possibly mid-set, and we are grateful that he did.
Livingston Taylor, brother of the more famous James Taylor, presents the same kind of acoustic music as his brother and often his voice sounds more like James than James does. It also gave us a bit of a mystery as well, and we are still unsure of whether this set is early, or early and late. It has a tape flip in the middle, and would appear to be otherwise complete, but seems rather lenthy for a mid act. Hopefully the complete late show will surface and shed a little more light on this in the future and solve the riddle.
Jethro Tull already a prominent figure in the British rock scene, combining elements of classical music and progressive art rock together, gives a solid performance. And as seems to be the Capitol Theater trademark, is more free-form than other sets from this period, expanding on themes, soloing not only on flute, but giving the guitarist and drummer their space as well. Very nice, early song list, a must have for any fan of his.
Rumor has it that during this set Ken was offered a large sum of money for the masters, but true to his word he turned it down.
Again, these sets have not seen the light of day for thirty-some odd years, and while time may have taken a toll on the master tape, the sound is absolutely astounding. And this is only the early show...
Enjoy!

Ken & Judy Lee present the Port Chester Resurrection Project as a loving tribute to Mark Cohen.
A brother and friend to many in the community, his spirit lives on through the music.

Note from original uploader Lucifer Burns:
Dear "dime" members,
Sorry we've been away so long, hope you haven't missed us to much....
We would like once again to share more new uncirculated Audience Masters from our friends in Europe.

So inspired by these words every week by "Team Lampinski"-Always remember - "the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you".
With that in mind we now present the WILLIAM TELL EDITIONS(WTE).
"William Tell" is the name of the person who is providing the recordings and transfers of his various friends in the "European Taping Community".
Several tapers including "William Tell" himself have recorded a wide range of various artists from the 70's, 80's and beyond.
It is these recordings we would like to dedicate to Dan Lampinski and his "Team" for all they shared with us.

Also i would like to ask those that still have such "treasures" tucked away,
to please consider sharing them the way these generous people have.
None of us are getting any younger and what good will any of your recordings be when your DEAD!

So Ladies & Gentleman, Boys & Girls, Brothers & Sisters
For your entertainment & "earjoyment"
I present to you;

Nick Drake - John Peel Sessions 1969

Excellent sounding recording of Nick Drake's early and sadly little appreciated work at the time. Nick was never happy with the final recordings of his music, he didn't like the orchestral arrangements and over production. He felt it should be just about him and the guitar. The music here is presented more in tune to how Nick wished it to be, more stripped down and "pure" (my word). A short but very nice listen.

Original Notes:

One of my all time favourite bands, from a soundboard recording, ripped from a recently acquired silver...

Free bird is also included in various copies in circulation,
but is absent from "Saturday Night Special" and "Chatanooga Choo-Choo".

Lynyrd Skynyrd later became the house band at Funocchio’s bar on Atlanta’s Peachtree Street, and it was there that musician and producer Al Kooper noticed them.
As a result, he produced their first record for an MCA label and performed with them.

From March 27-May 1, 1973, possibly while Mr. Martin was negotiating with the agent about getting them to Baylor, the band was at Studio One in Doraville, Ga.,
recording songs from its first album, “Pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd.” Tunes on the album included such now-familiar hits as “Tuesday’s Gone,” “Gimme Three Steps,”
“Simple Man,” and, of course, one of the classic songs in rock and roll history – “Free Bird.”

And sometime in June 1973 – just days after their Baylor appearance -- they recorded “Sweet Home Alabama,” which would be released about a year later and would be
the band’s first hit single.

“Free Bird,” the band’s first song to be played on the airwaves, was actually a few weeks from being released as well along with the other songs on the first album.

Within a couple of years, the band would become one of the most popular rock bands in the United States, particularly in the South. As evidence, a show they did at
Chattanooga’s Memorial Auditorium on March 19, 1975, was sold out.

They were scheduled to perform again at Memorial Auditorium in late October 1977, but on Oct. 20, a plane crash in Mississippi during a concert tour killed three
bandmembers, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, and several others. As a result, the group disbanded for several years before reuniting.

RE-UP Procol Harum - Dallas KZEW 1974

*Original Notes
Sometimes I wonder if recording in a perfect quality all the concerts Procol Harum played between 1968 and 1977 would not have been necessary. And to release them afterwards in a voluminous boxset one of the best historical achievement in rock music. Because in each show during this fabulous decade, the band seemed to re-invent itself and proposed something different, very slight mood changes that could completely modify the way we heard and felt the songs. Here the band is in its dynamic mood, which was often the case when he played for radio or TV (later I'll post a Danish TV show which was similarly tonic). Recorded on the 4th of July in a Dallas radio (KZEW), it's not a very rare testimony, often bootlegged, but anyway, the sound is very good and some of you may ignore the existence of this recording. I've created a cover sleeve for it, once again with a Jakob Bogdani painting (the painter they used for the Exotic Birds and Fruits album, released that same year and from which they take many of the setlist songs). Once again, it's an opportunity to hear what a fantastic drummer was BJ Wilson. May he never be forgotten even when people from my generation who had the privilege to seem him play live will be dead. Enjoy it here.
